The 11th Conference on Stone and Gravel Mining

2018 Mar. 19.

The 11th Conference on Stone and Gravel Mining was organized on 1-2. March of 2018 where the opening lecture was presented by Mr. Gábor Zelei, president of the Mining and Geological Survey of Hungary (hereinafter referred to as: MBFSZ), on mining of aggregates (sand, gravel, crashed stone) with regard to the role of MBFSZ.

The new mineral raw material cadaster was introduced, based on best international (e.g. Finland, Great Britain and Slovakia) practices, and its aim is the public display and high quality service of updated data for all types of mineral raw materials (ores, coals, hydrocarbons as well as geothermal energy). Areas and currently available data were also presented both on maps and online platforms. The cadaster will be soon published on the official homepage of MBFSZ, at the same time it will achive its goals by further developments and data input.

The aim of MBFSZ is data and information service in the 21. century for supporting mining, exploration and decision-making. Az MBFSZ célja a XXI. századi adat- és információszolgáltatás a bányászat, kutatás és döntéshozatal támogatására. Newer research results are incorporated permanently, relying on databases of the Survey as well as data report from the entrepreneurs (exploration final reports).

The presenter highlighted the access investigations as being one of the most essential part of potential assessment for non-metallic solid mineral raw materials where nature protection, coverage by infrastructure as well as another factors (e.g. water resource) are also taken into consideration.  There was also a reference to another lecture by MBFSZ held on the other day concerning details of the methodology.

Colleagues of MBFSZ participated in various international projects targeting the South-East European shared vision of the aggregate planning (SNAP-SEE project), as well as the development of concept on mineral deposits of public importance (MINATURA2020 project). As regarding future tasks, connecting of more and more related data systems and user friendly data service tailored to international needs were also mentioned.
